Families and caregivers are invited to attend our interactive workshops with their children to learn simple strategies and create fun games and activities to teach your child about reading, science, math, and other important early learning skills! Leave with materials to teach and practice these skills at home. We also offer adult attendance only make-and-take workshops for parents, grandparents and other caregivers to learn about preparing their children for school success and dealing successfully with challenging behavior. The NOVO Parenting Program is a home-based service provided in union with local social service agencies. Our goal is to provide in-home parenting services to at-risk families in an effort to help protect children, promote family strength and stability, provide permanency, improve family functioning, and enhance child development. The Grandparents as Caregivers Program helps grandparents who serve as child care providers to their grandchildren prepare their grandchildren for success in school. Through this program, grandparents receive free learning game and activity materials for children ages birth through seven that focus on building early learning, social emotional and literacy skills. This program offers center and family based providers help and guidance to comply with licensing regulations, assistance in setting up new programs, and resources for helping special needs children. In addition, this program helps providers develop improved room arrangement plans, access special training classes, and apply to the Maryland Credential Program and MSDE Accreditation Program. Our Resource Room offers providers the materials and resources needed to help create and enhance a successful child care program. Use our die-cuts, accu-cut machines, BoardMaker program, laminator, paper cutters, rubber stamp collection, and copier to create bulletin board displays, learning activities, games, and lesson plan materials for your child care program. This program enables families involved with the Department of Social Services (DSS) in Charles, St. Mary’s or Calvert counties to visit with their children in natural settings.  Visiting in natural settings – either in the home or in community areas such as parks, playgrounds, stores or restaurants – promotes more realistic interactions between parents and children, and allows parents to practice parenting and behavior management skills.  In turn, this helps DSS and the  court to better gauge the parents’ readiness for unsupervised visits and reunification.  Once referred, PRC works with the family and the foster family to coordinate visit dates, times and locations.  Visits can be scheduled during weekdays, evenings and weekends, and the visit time and location can change from week-to-week depending on the family’s schedule.
