Let’s get sham-rocking! These shamrock lacing cards are a fun way to get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit and also work on fine motor skills. For this activity, you will need:
- Green Card Stock Shamrock (Template found here)
- Pipe Cleaners in Rainbow Colors (Easily substitute ribbon)
- Hand-held Hole Punch
- Scissors
- Lamination (Optional)
Print your shamrock on the green card stock and cut out following the outline. Next, use the hole punch to create lacing holes. Holes can be made closer or further apart based on your needs. Cut pipe cleaners in half for easy alternating. Begin lacing!
When you begin lacing with pipe cleaners, create a loop at the beginning to hold the pipe cleaner in place. This also forms an easy way to tie off your project at the end. Feed the pipe cleaner through the holes. When your pipe cleaner cannot reach through another set of holes, grab the next color and twist it on the back of your shamrock to the previous colored pipe cleaner. Continue this process around the shamrock. When you reach the end, feed the end of the pipe cleaner through the starting hole and insert the end through your loop created at the beginning. Twist this together and cut off any remaining pipe cleaner.
To reuse this project, consider laminating the shamrock cutout and swap pipe cleaners for ribbon!
