Unwrap mini candy canes and submerge one in hot water, one in cold water and one in baby oil. Have the child watch and state observations on what happens to each candy cane. The hot water candy cane should disolve the fastest with the cold water disolving a little slower. But the one in oil will not change at all no matter how long it stays submerged.
