The Family Services Interventionist works with referred at-risk families to educate the adults in their role as parents and providers to the identified child(ren). The Interventionist provides direct assistance to families in creating and achieving their own goals through home visits. The intensity and length of the services is based on the needs of the family and child. The Family Services Interventionist will provide referrals to appropriate professionals when needed. Additionally, the Family Services Interventionist provides at-risk families with community-supervised visitation services and co-parenting coaching. This position does require occasional evening and weekend availability.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Family Services Interventionist works with families in crisis with multiple needs.
  • Provides child-specific and general information on parenting, child development, and early learning milestones.
  • Maintains current files on all referrals.
  • Maintains professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
  • Collects data necessary for evaluation of the program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by The Promise Resource Center.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor or higher degree in early childhood, special education, social work, psychology, human services or related field preferred.
  • Has at least two years experience in providing direct behavioral intervention to children 0-18 years old with challenging behaviors.
  • Has knowledge of early childhood mental health, developmental milestones, early childhood behavior management and experience working with children 0-7 years.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with parents, community and educational personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with a broad variety of individuals and agencies, both orally and in writing.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Experience in using a trauma-informed perspective when working with families.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Pay: $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week

Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Child Development or related field accepted. Must have experience working with young children from birth to three years old. Minimum of 1-year supervisory experience required. 45-hour Infant Toddler Certification preferred.

  • Have current medical evaluation, including a tuberculosis screen within 6 months before the individual begins work in the Center.
  • Have a current Maryland Driver’s License.

This staff person must:

  • Have a thorough knowledge of child growth and development of the first years of life from birth to three years of age.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of community resources related to the needs of young children and willingness to help families access them.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and understanding when relating to parents’ situation and feelings.
  • Possess basic management skills to include:
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to design and maintain an appropriate environment for infants and toddlers.
  • Ability to plan and implement activities for children individually and as a group.
  • Ability to maintain records and reports on young children.
  • Ability to reinforce health and safety standards in the child development room.
  • Possess supervisory skills related to child care management which include:
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and evaluate child development personnel and volunteers.
  • Ability to make sound decisions related to interactions between staff, parents and children.
  • Ability to provide guidance and direction to staff in curriculum planning and implementation and planning children’s activities.
  • Ability to model team leadership skills on issues of child development.
  • Ability to model/teach parents and staff how to nurture and interact with babies and young children.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversees the health, safety, and well-being of all the children.
  • Plans and implements a developmentally appropriate program for infants and toddlers, including screenings, assessments, and development of children’s individual classroom plans.
  • Demonstrates a sound knowledge of good teaching practices and of child growth and development.
  • Participates in program staff meetings and trainings provided by Maryland Family Network and The Promise Resource Center.
  • Reports directly to Family Support Center Director concerning Child Development Program and other job responsibilities.
  • Functions as member of the Family Support Center program management team.
  • Provides parents with information and support in their parenting role.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to get up and down off of a floor.
  • Complete all required paperwork.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Schedule:

Associate degree in Early Childhood Education preferred. Associate degree in related field or High School Diploma with 90-hour Child Care Certificate or Infant-Toddler CDA acceptable. Minimum of one year supervised classroom experience with children age zero through three years.

Have ability to participate in training classes pertaining to child development, children at risk, special needs, etc.
Have ability and desire to work with infants and toddlers, and be willing to work with preschoolers.
Have ability to accept supervision.
Have ability to communicate effectively with parents.
Have ability to provide support and education to parents in a positive, non-judgmental manner.
Have ability to respect participants’ communications as confidential and discuss pertinent information with Child Development Specialist.
Have ability to involve the parent in working with his/her child.
Have ability to follow through on instructions as they pertain to nursery management.
Have ability to implement the activity plans for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
Have ability to model/teach to parents how to nurture and interact with their babies.
Have ability to effectively enhance the development of children.
Have ability to write observations of children.
Have ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Have ability to get up and down off of a floor.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assists with the care, safety, and well-being of all of the children.
  • Assists with the implementation of a developmentally appropriate program for infants and toddlers.
  • Provides informal parenting education to participants in the Center.
  • Attends trainings required by The Promise Resource Center and Maryland Family Network.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • When appropriate, participates with other agencies in the implementation of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or

  • Provides child-specific and general training on topics of related interest.
  • Maintains current files on all referrals.
  • Maintains professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
  • Collects data necessary for evaluation of the program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by PRC.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in social work, mental health, early childhoood education, child development, or related field is required.
  • At least two years of experience in providing direct behavioral intervention to children 0-5 years old with challenging behaviors.
  • Knowledge of early childhood mental health, developmental milestones, early childhood classroom set up and management, and experience working with children 0-5 years.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply the Pyramid Model (formerly Social Emotional Foundations for Early Learning) is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with parents, child care, and early childhood care and education personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with a broad variety of individuals and agencies, both orally and in writing.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
